Getting a premium starter kit is the best way to get started with pure essential oils. This list of oils included in the kit is a basic guide to what is included and how to use it.

What is considered a pure essential oil?
Unfortunately, there is no regulation of the word “pure” in the essential oil world. Anyone can use that word on their labels if they so desire. It’s the same as food labels boasting “natural”, “farm fresh”, and similar unregulated claims.
For this reason, you must do your own research to find oils that are truly pure and safe for your family. I would personally define a pure essential oil as one made from plants that have not been treated with pesticides or chemicals of any kind and that contain no added fillers, preservatives, or scents. A pure essential oil would be unadulterated and undiluted oil derived from healthy plants.
Why should you only buy pure essential oils?
For the healthy and well being of your family! Essential oils are highly concentrated, so the importance of them coming from healthy plants and not having added ingredients (which are usually unnatural) is of utmost importance.
Does it matter where you buy essential oils from?
Yes!!! There are many unregulated and untrustworthy companies out there, so you really want to understand the practices of the particular company you buy from.
I go into all of this much more in-depth in this post, so please go check that out to understand how oils are made and why the oils you buy matter so much.
The Premium Starter Kit
I started with the premium starter kit including the Dewdrop diffuser, and I would absolutely do it over again! It’s worth every penny and gives you good variety to get started with oils.
It took me a while to take the plunge because money was tight and I already had a handful of cheaper oils I had dabbled with and didn’t want to waste. I’m so glad I switched though because there’s just no comparison.
The only thing I’d recommend differently is to get the kit with the Desert Mist diffuser because it is so pretty and has more mist and light options!
Now on to the oils you’ll receive in your kit…
Lavender
Lavender oil is such a versatile oil. It is commonly referred to as the “Swiss Army knife” of essential oils, and for good reason. It is wonderful for minor cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites, and skin irritations. If you aren’t sure what oil to use, try lavender! This is also one of the few oils that are safe for new babies. This oil is one we strive to never run out of and it’s the one my children (down to the toddler) know they can grab on their own and use without help as needed.
Lemon
Lemon is such a cheerful essential oil to have around. It is great for DIY cleaning products, hand soaps, and for cooking. It is also provides beneficial immune support. Our favorite soothing remedy for sore throats is a drop of Lemon essential oil and/or Thieves blend in a spoonful of raw honey.
This oil also comes in your kit as a Vitality oil. Young Living’s Vitality oils have been given a white dietary label and specifically designated safe for internal use. I personally have no problems using any of Young Living’s oils internally as long as they are on the GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe for human consumption) List, but if this gives you extra confidence to use them that way then the Vitality line is a great option!
Side note: Vitality oils can be used topically and in a diffuser, which is what you’ll likely do starting out from the kit, but they are more expensive due to the special labeling and such. So if you have both the Vitality and regular version of an oil I would recommend only using Vitality internally and regular for all other applications. Just a budget-friendly tip for you.
Citrus Fresh
Citrus Fresh is an uplifting combination of orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin orange, and spearmint. All of the citrus oils are very light, refreshing oils and this adds that zing of mint. This one also comes as a Vitality oil in the kit and is great for adding to water or other drinks for a refreshing boost. My favorite way to use it is in the diffuser to freshen up the air, plus the mood boosting effects that citrus gives. It’s like the experience of freshly cutting a lemon or lime open…without having to cut one open every time you want that effect!
Peppermint
This oil is very strong, so be cautious with it, but I highly recommend getting comfortable with using it! Just make sure not to get it near your eyes and wash your hands after using it so you don’t accidentally rub your eyes without thinking (I still forget and do this occasionally after years of using it!).
Peppermint is great for adding to food and drinks (homemade peppermint mocha, anyone??), for digestive support, and it’s one of my go-to oils for headaches. I like to put lavender across my forehead and then a teeny bit of peppermint far back on my temples for natural relief.
This one you also want to be cautious around small children because it is known in a very small percentage of them to cause respiratory distress. It’s always wise to try it first in small amounts diffused before every trying it topically, that way you can just move them away from it if it seems to bother them at all.
Thieves
This is a blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary. It is our family’s number one pick for immune support and cleaning. It’s a very comforting scent, it always makes me think of fall, and can be used a number of ways. I make roller bottles of it, foaming hand soap, hand sanitizer, all purpose cleaner, and diffuse it as well. You can also put some in capsules to take or make a lovely immune booster tea with it (this comes as a Vitality oil in the kit).
If you aren’t into DIY or need an easy option, Young Living has a complete Thieves line of products that are pre-made alternatives to toxic store-bought household and body products. They have a natural Thieves toothpaste line that we have used and enjoyed.
DiGize
DiGize is a blend of tarragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, fennel, lemongrass, anise, and patchouli. I’ll be honest here and say this is hands down my least favorite Young Living oil that I’ve smelled so far. But it provides excellent digestive support and is a must-have during any kind of stomach bug. It’s one we won’t be without, despite my dislike of the scent!
It is supportive of normal digestive function in a number of ways. I’ve heard of people using it as part of a daily regimen for supporting gut health. I’ve found it helpful for heartburn during pregnancy as well, by applying a drop to the roof of the mouth.
Panaway
We use this blend for most pain relief needs. Stubbed toes, bruises, minor cuts and sprains all call for this refreshingly scented oil. I’ve used it postpartum for afterpains before. It’s also become our favorite alongside magnesium oil for growing pains, which we have a lot of around here!
Panaway contains wintergreen, helichrysum, clove, and peppermint. Helichrysum is particularly beneficial for supporting the body’s blood clotting abilities. I try to always have both Panaway and straight Helichryum on hand for that reason. They are great additions to any natural first aid kit.
Peace & Calming
This relaxing pure essential oil blend is made of tangerine, orange, ylang ylang, patchouli, and blue tansy. It’s wonderful for diffusing in a room of rambunctious children that need calming down! Diffusing it at night can be a helpful sleep aid, especially in cases of anxiety and restlessness. I have personally found it helpful for taming Braxton Hicks contractions, and I have heard of laboring mothers using it topically or in a diffuser in the birth room as well.
Frankincense
Frankincense has a long history of use, going back to Bible times! It is considered a holy oil since it was given to Jesus at his birth and is traditionally used during prayer and rituals. We use it the most for immune support. It is also great for concentration and can support healthy skin.
Stress Away
This oil blend provides amazing emotional support for stress and anxiety. It contains copaiba, lime, cedar wood, vanilla, ocotea, and lavender. This is the very first oil I opened from my starter kit years ago and became an instant favorite! It is a go to for me when things get overwhelming or I am about to head into social situations that have the potential to be more difficult. Conveniently, it also makes for a lovely perfume scent as well.
Ocotea essential oil is known for its ability to help balance blood sugar, so you may find Stress Away helpful when reducing or eliminating sugar from your diet!
Raven
This blend is newer to the starter kit and not one that I have personally used yet. It is definitely on my list to try this winter as I’ve heard it offers excellent respiratory support! It is made of camphor, lemon, wintergreen, peppermint, and eucalyptus. We have used straight eucalyptus oils and other blends containing them for all manner of respiratory ailments with great results.
Valor
This is another personal favorite blend of mine, containing black spruce, camphor wood, blue tansy, frankincense, and geranium. Black spruce was traditionally used in ancient times on warriors about to go fight to boost their courage. I try to remember to use it on days when I am extra tired or overwhelmed and really need to be able to push through a hard stretch. I’ve used it topically, diffused into the room, and on a diffuser necklace all for that purpose.
Other items you will receive in your starter kit
Young Living includes a handful of other items in the kit including 2 Ningxia Red single serve pouches, a small Thieves spray, Thieves waterless hand sanitizer samples, and other small samples and tools to get you started using and sharing your oils.
