I’m so glad you’re here! Find out more about me, what The Proverbial Pioneer is about, and what you can expect to find in these pages.
Welcome to The Proverbial Pioneer
Do you feel as though you are in all new territory as a wife, mom, and homemaker?
Are you following a path in your life that was never modeled for you?
Or maybe you saw it modeled but didn’t attempt make it your own so you still feel as though you’re starting from scratch?
Are you living a lifestyle that most of your peers can’t even begin to identify with?
Maybe you decided to do one or more of the following:
- Put your marriage first
- Trust the Lord with how many children you have and when
- Stay home with your children
- Live on only one income
- Homeschool
- Make the switch to more natural food and health
And, although you are thoroughly convinced that this is what God has called you to, you often feel overwhelmed, discouraged… maybe even hopeless. Sometimes the temptation to give up and do what everyone around you does is so very tempting…
I’ve been there.
I understand your struggle and I want to encourage you as you journey along, blazing new trails in the midst of a culture that doesn’t understand why you’ve chosen this path.
Let’s joyfully reclaim together the lost territory of putting God’s priorities first in our lives and homes!
In the spirit of the Proverbs 31 woman, and many other godly women who have gone before us, let us not be afraid to shed the lies around us and fully embrace God’s beautiful design for Biblical womanhood.
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
2 Timothy 1:7 ESV
Journey on, dear sister…
May these pages offer you both spiritual and practical encouragement to do just that!

Hi, I’m Christie!
I am a wife and mother to seven children ages thirteen and under with another on the way. We have six boys and one girl. My family and I live in the Ozarks where my husband, Jonathan, is the general manager of a Christian bookstore.
The Lord has blessed us with a home out in the country on a small property surrounded by fields so it feels like we have much more land than we do. We get to watch the sun rise over the fields behind our house and set over the field in front of it, as well as lot of deer! It’s truly been perfect for our current season of life.
About Me
I was born in Michigan but have lived most of my life in the Midwest. I have two sisters including a twin who is severely disabled but who has blessed my life in so many ways and helped shape how I see the world.
I’m rather obsessed with real food and natural health but have struggled to develop the new habits needed to implement all I’ve learned. The Lord is growing me, though, and for that I am thankful. I am also thankful for the way he’s allowed me to bless my family through {painfully} slow changes. It’s about progress, not perfection!
As with natural living, I wish the rest of homemaking was a skill that came more naturally to me. I often wish there was a very clear answer as to how to make a 1200 square foot house not look like nine people live in it, but alas, they do (and in a very lively sort of way at that)! So I strive regularly to find a balance between being a diligent homemaker while also giving my family the freedom and supplies to live and love and learn.
I’m a second generation homeschooler who really can’t seem to find a “camp” that I fit neatly into. I ask far too many questions and have never been one to just go with flow as much as my personality might seem to lend itself that way. The closest I can come to labeling myself would probably be as a Charlotte Mason influenced unschooler. I see learning as a very natural part of life and think of education as primarily a form of discipleship.

Fun facts about me:
- I’m a lefty but I do most things with my right hand since that’s how I was taught.
- I got to go on mission trip to Bolivia when I was sixteen where I just knew I was going to go back to as a missionary nurse in a few years. It didn’t happen.
- Also around sixteen years old, I predicted that I would have all sons when I grew up because I’d have no idea what to do with them. That did happen.
- I went to college to double major in Bible and nursing. I dropped out after a year and a half to get married instead. #priorities
- I’m pretty sure I was married for at least two years before I understood what the word “declutter” meant (or did it).
- I’ve had one baby in the hospital and all the others at home. With two of them, my midwife only made it about 10 minutes before they made their appearance!
- Most importantly, the Lord saved me at a young age and has providentially guided me through many a storm and struggle. He is good. Soli Deo Gloria.
